AS Media
Course Review
I have completed media for GCSE at grade A and this made it
easier for in my AS Media course therefore, I feel I was more confident and
slightly more prepared then my peers.
My first major task was to create a music magazine for any
genre. I chose a ‘metal’ magazine and had to research other magazines to make
mine as accurate as possible.
Having done media in GCSE I already knew most of the media
terminology so I found it easier, however, I also helped my peers which in turn
helped me develop as an individual.
Throughout the course I felt that it wasn’t too difficult
with all the work and different deadlines because I had help from my teachers
and fellow classmates.
Overall in the course I got a B however, I feel I could have
done better in my actual coursework due to only getting a C however, I am proud
of myself getting a B because I tried really hard in the exam. Media is my
favourite subject and is what I want to go into in the future.
During my AS course I used computer software and technology
like:
- Photoshop
- PowToon’s
- Sony Vegas
- Green Screensv Cameras
- Lighting equipmentv Sony Vegas
- YouTube
My favourite equipment to use was the green screen room and
HD Video and SLR cameras and then editing them in Photoshop; Creating cool and
interesting images for my music and school magazine.
When I ran into a problem for example, how to take away the
green screen background; I also used the internet to find out how. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH2cxJYHGSw
is the video I watched. It showed me step by step instructions which was more
helpful.
The time we started using Sony Vegas Pro 13 to present to the
group a PowerPoint I made on PowToon, I first put my videos in – which were
several questions regarding my coursework on my music magazine evaluation- and
then began editing them by using transitions and adding text to engage more
with the audience.
I have used Photoshop while studying GCSE Media so I didn’t
really run into any problems.
I think the hardest thing that I will try to do better in my
A2 course is do better in using the lighting equipment because I found that
having better lighting made it easier to edit images and videos. (The shadows
did effect some of my green screen work).
I think the most difficult part of the course was learning,
revising and then trying to remember all the different theories and then
actually implicate them into my writing. I knew some theories from GCSE which I
think was a big help, however, at the start of the course I felt like it was
very difficult but with help from my teacher it got easier over time.
